Finding the Right Field - After Trying Quite a Few
If you had told younger me that I would eventually land in real estate and feel this aligned with my work, I probably would have laughed and then clocked in for another shift somewhere completely different.
Before real estate, I wore a lot of hats. And I mean a lot. I have worked as an ER tech where adrenaline is high, sleep is low, and you learn very quickly how much people need calm and compassion in their worst moments. I have sold running shoes convincing people that yes these ones really will change their knees and possibly their lives. I have been a barista mastering the art of smiling before caffeine and spelling names creatively. I have worked in marketing. I spent time as a real estate assistant learning the behind the scenes reality of this business. And I also worked in an elementary school office helping kids and parents alike which might be the best crash course there is in patience problem solving and heartfelt communication.
Each job taught me something important. How to listen. How to stay calm when things are chaotic. How to explain complicated things simply. How to anticipate needs before someone even knows they have them. At the time it felt like I was just collecting jobs but looking back I was really collecting skills.
Being a real estate assistant gave me a competitive edge in ways I did not fully appreciate until I stepped into the agent role. I had already seen what happens after the contract is signed. I knew where deals tend to wobble. I understood timelines paperwork and all the tiny details that can make or break a smooth transaction. While some agents are learning the process in real time I had already been behind the curtain taking notes and fixing things before anyone noticed they were broken.
Real estate at its core is not about houses. It is about people. It is about guiding someone through one of the biggest most emotional decisions of their life and being steady honest and supportive the entire way. Sometimes it is education. Sometimes it is negotiation. Sometimes it is reassurance. And sometimes it is answering the same question for the fourth time and meaning it when you say no problem at all.
As a mom, the flexibility matters more than I ever expected. Being able to show up for my kids and my clients is something I do not take lightly. Real estate allows me to build a career while still being present sometimes in yoga pants sometimes in heels and often juggling both worlds at once.
I genuinely love helping people in real estate. I love first time buyers who are nervous but excited. I love sellers closing one chapter and starting another. I love being the calm voice when things feel overwhelming and the steady guide when emotions run high.
It turns out trying many different paths was not me being lost. It was me being prepared. I did not find the right field right away but when I did it felt like everything finally clicked and I couldn’t be more excited for the future. I cannot wait to help as many families, investors and individuals reach their goals through real estate.
I’m always an open book and happy to help. Genuinely. ♥️
With love,
Amanda Smeback
